Interview with Fibo’s Head of Modular, Sven Konrad
In this interview, Sven Konrad, Head of Fibo Modular, explains why Fibo’s waterproof wall system has become a trusted choice for over 200 modular manufacturers globally. Sven highlights the unique benefits Fibo brings to modular construction and how Fibo is designed to meet the demands of modern modular production.
Sven, Fibo’s waterproof wall system is widely used in modular construction worldwide. Can you explain it has become so popular among manufacturers?
Sven: Certainly! Fibo has been manufacturing bathroom panels since 1952, and from the very beginning, the panels have been used in modular buildings and pods. Today, we sell a whole wall system. This includes custom-made Fibo accessories and profiles which are tailored specifically for the installation of our panels. Our wall system is a game-changer for modular producers because it streamlines the installation process, offers outstanding durability, and looks great! The panels are safer to transport as they do not crack during transportation, they only weigh 8,1 kg per square meter which is crucial in modular construction where weight is key. You can install Fibo panels up to five times faster than traditional tiles, significantly reducing labour time and costs. Manufacturers around the world love this because it translates directly into time and money saved during production.
Additionally, Fibo panels are made with high-quality, waterproof materials that ensure they withstand moisture and heavy usage. This durability is essential in modular settings, where units may face diverse environments or rapid turnovers. Of course, the range of finishes allows manufacturers to offer stylish, modern interiors without compromising on function or durability.
You mentioned that Fibo is particularly suited for modular environments. Can you elaborate on the specific design and functional advantages Fibo offers?
Sven: One of the biggest advantages is that our panels have a unique Aqualock system. This allows for a speedy and seamless installation with a watertight seal. Traditional tiling requires time for adhesive to set, careful spacing, and additional waterproofing steps. Fibo’s panels eliminate these steps, so modular builders can save significant time, all while ensuring the units are protected from water damage, which is a common concern.
Moreover, Fibo panels are lightweight yet strong, making them ideal for modular units that often need to balance structural integrity with efficient transport. Once installed, they’re ready for use immediately, with no curing or drying times required, which allows manufacturers to streamline their entire assembly process.
Why do you think Fibo has become a top choice for modular manufacturers worldwide?
Sven: Manufacturers tell us they can produce more units in less time without sacrificing quality. They also love the easy maintenance, as do homeowners and tenants; who can clean Fibo panels without the need for strong chemicals or a toothbrush to sit and scrub the grout in tiles clean!
We’ve also heard from manufacturers in various countries that using Fibo gives their units a more upscale look, which is appealing to clients who want a high-end feel without the high cost. For many, Fibo has become a preferred choice because of the long-term value it brings.
