Durable solution for student housing in Bergen
When old workers’ houses in Lotheveien, Bergen, are transformed into modern student accommodation, and the student rooms at Hatleberg are being renovated, high demands are placed on material choices. They must be durable, hygienic, and cost-effective. In the extensive rehabilitation projects for Sammen, Byggmester Ådnekvam AS has installed Fibo bathroom panels in a total of 239 student rooms. This includes 91 units at Hatleberg Block F and 148 at Lotheveien. All units now have private bathrooms with durable and stylish walls covered in Fibo surfaces. XL-Bygg Åsane supplied all panels.
From workers’ houses to modern student units
At Lotheveien, three large houses have been fully rehabilitated from the ground up. Originally built as workers’ housing, these buildings have now been converted into 148 modern student units with excellent shared spaces, managed by the Student Welfare Organisation in Western Norway (Sammen).
The work began with demolition and sanitation in spring 2024, stripping the buildings down to the bare shell. Then they received new roofs and restructured interiors before the renovation started. By summer 2025, the rooms will be ready for students to move in at the start of the autumn semester.
Fibo – an efficient choice for use and installation
A crucial decision in the project was the bathroom materials. With frequent tenant turnover, the need for robust and low-maintenance solutions is high. The choice landed on Fibo bathroom panels in the Denver White décor, which is a high-gloss panel with a tile pattern.
– The combination of easy cleaning and durability made Fibo the natural choice. With many students living here over the years, bathrooms need to be easy to keep clean and handle heavy use, explains Andreas, site manager at Byggmester Ådnekvam.
The installation of the panels was carried out by Byggmester Ådnekvam, who also handled sales and procurement. The supplier was XL-Bygg Åsane.
Markus Monsen, who participated in installing Fibo, highlights how easy it is to work with.
