Smart, Safe, and Stylish: Fibo Fire Rated Panels Set the Standard at Lunde School in Norway

With 917 square meters of Fibo’s waterproof wall panel system and 270 square meters of the new Fibo Fire Rated Panel, the brand-new Lunde School on Kråkerøy, Norway, is raising the bar for what a modern learning environment should be: Safe, efficient, and built to last.

Building a safer, more modern school

The transformation of Lunde School began in January 2024 with a bold and ambitious vision: demolish three outdated buildings, construct a brand-new school, and fully renovate an existing facility, all as part of a NOK 130 million project backed by Fredrikstad Municipality.

“We handed over the new building on July 3rd,” says Henrik Lie Nilsen of Backe Østfold AS, the construction company leading the project.”

“It’s been a comprehensive upgrade – with a brand-new school building, gymnasium, artificial turf pitch, and major renovations. When students return after the summer break, they’ll come back to a completely transformed school day.”

Fibo Fire Rated Panels were installed onto a strong backing of gypsum and OSB boards — creating a durable and reliable wall structure that can stand up to the daily wear and tear of a busy school.

Nilsen continues: “the panels were screwed directly onto the OBS boards, resulting in a solid and secure system that’s ideal for high-traffic areas.”

Built for the next generation

When the project wraps next summer, Lunde School will reopen as a two-stream facility with 14 classrooms and space for around 300 students. But more than that, it will stand as a blueprint for how educational buildings can be safe, sustainable, and thoughtfully designed.
