Designed by Map Architects, the 7,200-square-meter development includes 48 new care apartments and amenities such as a day centre, café, hobby room, gym, and offices. With Ruta Entreprenør leading the construction, the project emphasizes long-term value, sustainability, and practical design—qualities that align perfectly with Fibo’s wall panel system.
Fibo’s contribution to the care home
To address the specific challenges of care facilities, Fibo’s wall panels were selected for the bathrooms in Sundet Residential Care Home. Fibo’s Light Grey panels were chosen to create a clean, modern, and calming look. With their antibacterial surface and easy-clean properties, the panels ensure a hygienic and low-maintenance environment—ideal for elderly care settings where hygiene and ease of use are paramount. In addition to the bathrooms, Fibo’s wall system has also been used in communal kitchens and changing rooms, further contributing to a cohesive and practical design throughout the facility.
Practical Fibo design
The choice of Light Grey panels brings a simple and modern look to the bathrooms. The subtle colour provides a neutral backdrop that complements the space without dominating it. Paired with practical fixtures, the bathrooms balance functionality and style. The clean, minimalist design makes the space easy to maintain while offering comfort for residents.
The bathrooms also feature accessibility fixtures that are easy to mount onto Fibo’s panels, designed to support the mobility needs of elderly residents. This combination of practicality and design ensures that the spaces are safe, functional, and visually suitable for a care home environment. See how to mount fixtures on Fibo panels here.
Fibo is a cost-effective and sustainable solution
Fibo provides a cost-effective solution in terms of installation and long-term maintenance. With installation up to five times faster than traditional tiling, Fibo helped contractors, Ruta Entreprenør, maintain the project’s schedule and budget. Additionally, the durability of Fibo panels—backed by a 15-year warranty (and an expected lifetime of at least 30 years)—ensures a long-term reduction in maintenance costs.
The sustainability benefits of Fibo panels were another important factor in their selection for this project. By choosing Fibo, the project contributes to reducing its environmental impact, as Fibo has a lower carbon footprint compared to traditional ceramic tiles (read the report here). This aligns with the Sundet Residential Care Home’s broader goals of sustainability and energy efficiency.
The Sundet Residential Care Home project perfectly reflects Fibo’s commitment to creating sustainable and practical solutions. Our panels were selected for their modern look and low maintenance needs, but also because they contribute to the long-term sustainability of the building. We’re excited to see our products ready to enhance the living environment for future residents and staff
Jan Kåre, District Manager, Fibo Norway
Fibo promotes health and hygiene with a good indoor climate
In a care home, maintaining a hygienic environment is critical. Fibo’s antibacterial surface provides added protection against bacteria and germs, supporting a cleaner, healthier environment for residents. The panels are also easy to clean, requiring only a cloth and neutral cleaning agents. This not only enhances hygiene but also reduces the use of harsh chemicals that can affect both indoor air quality and the environment.
